Welcome to eSafe Print E-mail

Did you know that you are giving away sensitive information such as bank details, home addresses, credit card information, photographs and practically every well-guarded secret of your life up on the web, willingly? There are many criminal minds out there, waiting to tap into such sensitive information. Every netizen must be aware of this fact – On the web, NO ONE IS SAFE! Not unless you protect yourself.

Welcome to e-safe! An initiative by KEONICS (Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited), supported by Mandamus Info Knowledge Consultants (Bangalore) Pvt. Ltd not only to make you ‘cyber safe’ but also ‘cyber smart’. Here, you will find valuable tips and vital information on different cyber scam types, how to identify such information and who to report this malicious information to. Identify which groups are under threat and what best practices can help you be safe and secure.

Most individuals think ‘We are simply not an attractive enough target.’ You are already unsafe if you feel this way. Every threat must be taken seriously be it a lottery scam, spam or hacking into your mail or social networking account. Always ‘Think before you Click’. Your PC must have an up-to-date anti-virus, firewall and site advisor.

Cyber security is a relatively new field with increasing threats and the seriousness of compromising valuable consumer data. Attackers have sizable inventory of known but unused or rarely used tricks and such innovation is likely to continue. Not unless Cyber security becomes pro-active rather than reactive. This is where YOU, as a consumer come into play. Cyber crime is being perpetrated through a robust underground economy and supply chain, use of Botnets, as well as via planned targetted or stealth attacks.

According to a survey conducted by Symantec India has the highest ratio of outgoing spam and junk mail. In cyber crime Karnataka registers a higher number of incidents as it is the IT hub of the country. With other serious threats such as Phishing, money laundering, defacement of websites, identity theft, cyber stalking and many more, the internet has become extremely unsafe and even dangerous.

Cyber space security management has also become a matter of concern as far as national security is concerned. It is also a well-known fact that terrorism has raised, initiated and funded its agendas in the security blanket of anonymity of the internet plus the lack of resources to be brought to justice.

With an aim to strengthen the cyber law system of the country, e-safe is a local initiative and will also garner support nationally. An extremely important education and awareness initiative, it will help law enforcement agencies, the legal fraternity, government departments, banking segment, private sectors and the education segment against cyber crime.

The Departments of IT, BT and S & T, Government of Karnataka and Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited have inaugurated the KEONICS Cyber Lab facility in Mangalore.
